Ever notice the archetype Gollum?

Gollum was a Stoor Hobbit of the River-folk, who lived near the Gladden Fields. Originally known as Sméagol, he was corrupted by the One Ring and later named Gollum after his habit of making “a horrible swallowing noise in his throat”.  He stole and liked a certain magical ring which he called “my precious.”  The overall motif used by author Tolkien (Hobbit, 1937) comes from older versions including “Ring of the Nibelungs” by R. Wagner, 1848.            -Gollum in Peter Jackson‘s live-action version of The Lord of the Rings. He was voiced and performed by Andy Serkis.

Do the three characters of Frodo, Samwise and Gollum who join up on a mission to Mount Doom have archetypal significance?  Certainly.   -r, mt. shasta, ca

This reminds me of the old Ent, a tree shepherd, in Tolkien’s The Lord of the Rings.  He cautioned the impetuous hobbits against giving their real names and would not give them his real name—which he said would take a very long time to say and would be the story of his existence.      -Messenger E C Prophet:  Predict Your Future, 2004, p. 70

“When I asked for the name the being told me “Precious.”  Associating that name with the creature from the Tolkien trilogy and assuming that this gnome was masculine, I reacted rather rudely.”  (someone’s story)      -Messenger E C Prophet:  Is Mother Nature Mad?, 2008, p. 124

The purpose of this book is to show as clearly as possible that there is an essential unity in all religions; that there is no difference in the truths inculcated by the various faiths; that there is but one method by which the world, both external and internal, has evolved; and that there is but one Goal admitted by all scriptures.  But this basic truth is one not easily comprehended.      -Yukteswar:   Holy Science, 8th ed., 1990, pp. 3-4
